When using third party supplies, we try and source locally where possible, but will sometimes use out-of-county suppliers to ensure the right quality of materials or services is met.

What is it they say about going into business with friends?

Whatever it is, buddies David Jones and Mark Girvan weren’t listening. In 2007, after years of talking about it, the pair quit their jobs designing for Waitrose, Royal Mail, Diageo and the like at leading London studios, and took the plunge together.

They resurfaced on the coast as Buddy, in a place they love, doing what they love, inspired by fresh air, scones and clients they care about. Today, their labours of love have yielded awards, a team of talented, like-minded souls, and repeat business from people they can count as friends.

Sometimes, not listening has its benefits.

    Power tools, personal finance, property maintenance, tortilla chips, coffee, kids clothing… The list of brands and clients in David’s portfolio is as broad as it is long. Like his other-worldly namesake, he’s a bit of a chameleon, able to talk cheese spread in the morning and negotiate the strategic challenges of a higher education institution in the afternoon. It’s a talent that saw him through spells at several leading London studios, working for clients such as Homebase, Woolworths, Waitrose, Boots and Royal Mail, and has garnered international awards and shortlistings from D&AD, Design Week and Creative Review.

    Mark, like David, is one of his generation’s outstanding designers, with years of varied experience at top brand and packaging agencies like Enterprise IG, Pearlfisher and Tutssels, and a shelfful of industry awards. Some of the drinks industry’s biggest names, in particular, including Diageo, ThaiBev and SABMiller have raised a glass to Mark’s revitalising effect on their leading labels. In fact, if we could bottle his talent for reviving drinks brands, we could head for the beach, order a Blue Hawaiian and never come back.
